Liver Treats (training)
Cook liver in water on top of stove until done.(4 minutes at, at most). Drain, cool and cut into bite-size pieces. Put them on a lined baking sheet (I have never lined my pans and they do not stick) and place in a cool oven (about 200 degrees) for about 2 hours or until dried out. These are wonderful training treats and are not messy to carry around in your pocket. If you keep them covered in the refrigerator, they last several months.

Salmon Treats
1 can salmon (undrained)
2 c. wheat flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/3 c. water
1 tsp. liquid smoke
pinch of dried rosemary (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Add all of the above ingre-
dients in a food processor or blender. Remove and knead until a soft dough (similar to pie crust dough). Separate into
2 equal sized balls. Roll out dough to 1/4" thickness and use a pizza cutter to cut into small squares or whatever shape you wish. Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet until crispy.
Homemade Frosty Paws
32 oz. vanilla yogurt
1 mashed banana
2 T. peanut butter
2 T. honey
Blend all together and freeze in either 3 oz. paper cups or ice cube trays. Microwave just a few seconds before serving. May substitute the banana with 1 large jar of baby fruit or baby meat.
Homemade Flea Spray
(All Natural)
2 T. Cider Vinegar
1 C. Avon's Skin-So-Soft
1 C. Water
1/8 t. Oil of Citronella
To repel fleas, combine ingredients, rub into the coat with the fingers. Apply every 2-3 days.
Fatballs
(Weight gain recipe for dogs)
10 lbs. hamburger
20 envelopes unflavored Knox Gelatin
20 egg yolks
2 (12oz.) jars wheat germ
2 boxes Total cereal
2 C. blackstrap molasses
2 C. corn or safflower oil
garlic or garlic extract
2 cartons cottage cheese (optional)
2-5 C. peanut butter (optional)
Mix all ingredients, except the meat, in a large soup pot. Crumble the meat into the mixture and mix well with hands (about 10 minutes). Form into individual balls, about the size of a fist. Place on a cookie sheet and freeze until hard. Store in container or bag after frozen. May serve to dogs frozen as a hot weather treat or thaw and mix with their regular food.
Doggie Cookies
2 C. barley flour
2 C. whole wheat flour
1 t. ground cinnamon
1 C. water
1/2 apple (cored and chopped)
2 T. canola oil
2 T. blackstrap molasses
1 large egg
In large bowl combine barley and wheat flours and cinna-
mon. In food processor, combine water, apple, oil, molasses
and egg. Puree until smooth. Pour over dry ingredients and stir until well incorporated. In the bowl and using hands knead until dough holds together. Transfer to lightly floured
surface. Roll out dough to about 1/8 inch thickness. Poke holes with a fork all over surface of dough. Using pizza cutter
or sharp knife, cut dough into bite size rectangles or squares. Place 1/2 inch apart on baking sheets. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 20 minutes or until firm. Place pans on racks and let cool completely. Reduce temperature to 300 degrees and bake for an additional 30 minutes or until hard. Transfer cookies to rack and let cool.
Store in tightly sealed jar for up to 30 days.
Liza's Dog Treats
1 1/4 C. warm water
1 pkg. yeast
2 T. chicken or beef bouillon
1 egg, beaten
2 T. vegetable oil
3 T. honey barbecue sauce
2 C. whole wheat flour
1 1/2 C. all purpose flour
1 1/2 C. quick cook oatmeal
1/2 C. wheat germ
fresh barbecue sauce (for topping)
In small bowl, dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. In large bowl, mix bouillon and 1 C. warm water. Add egg, vegetable oil and barbecue sauce. Mix well, then add the yeast mixture. Stir in the wheat and all purpose flours, oatmeal and wheat germ; mix by hand. If dough is sticky, add white flour, a teaspoon or 2 at a time, until dough reaches desired consistency.
On waxed paper, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness and use cookie cutter to press out shapes. Place biscuits on
greased cookie sheet; cover lightly with cloth and let rise for 20 minutes. Brush each shape with barbecue sauce. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Turn oven off and leave biscuits in oven for several hours.
Recipe makes approximately 3 dozen celebration bones. If fewer calories are desired, omit the barbecue sauce, but increase the water by 3 tablespoons. Dogs still love them without the barbecue sauce.
Turkey Balls
(These are so good, you may want to try them yourself)
1 loaf uncooked bread or pizza dough
1/4 C. turkey broth
1-2 t. flour
3/4 C. cooked turkey, cut in small pieces
1/2 C. cooked vegetables
1/4 t. garlic powder
1/4 C. grated cheese
1/4 C. sesame seeds
Roll out the dough and cut into 3 inch circles with a cookie cutter. In a saucepan, combine the broth and flour, stirring until the flour is dissolved and mixture thickens. Add the turkey, veggies and garlic powder. Cook until mixture is heated through. Let cook a bit. Spoon 1-2 teaspoonfuls of the turkey mixture onto each circle. Fold up the sides and pinch shut. Roll into a ball shape. Mix the cheese and sesame seeds in a small bowl. Roll or sprinkle each ball with the mixture. Arrange the balls on a cookie sheet. Cook in a preheated 375 degree oven for 10-15 minutes, until they are golden brown. Let cool. Store in the refrigerator.
Fruity Yogurt Treats
2 mashed kiwi fruits or 1 jar of fruit baby food
8 ozs. strawberry or any other flavor yogurt
Mix together; freeze in an ice cube tray. Serve. Plus, these do not damage gums and teeth like ice does.
Frozen Peanut Butter Yogurt Dog Treats
1- 32 oz. container vanilla yogurt
1 C. peanut butter
Put the peanut butter in a microwave safe dish and microwave until melted. Mix the yogurt and the melted peanut butter in a bowl. Pour mixture into cupcake papers and freeze.
Special Diet for Growing Hair and for Picky Eaters
1 lb. peanut butter
1 lb. honey
1 lb. Mirra coat
1 pt. Lavitamin (also known at Lixatonic)
Have peanut butter at room temperature. Mix all ingredients together. This will be very thick and sticky. Stores indefinitely in refrigerator. Make into balls according to size of the dog. Small dogs should get 1-3 teaspoons daily.
Large dogs should get 1-2 tablespoons daily.
Guaranteed to grow hair; even on doorknobs. If you can get the doorknob to eat and digest this, it will grow hair.
Mackerel Cookies
1 can mackerel
2 eggs
Oatmeal to make cookie consistency
Preheat oven to 350°. Mix ingredients by hand in large bowl, or food processor. Once you have a dough of cookie consis-
tency, drop by heaping spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet.
Bake until golden brown. Store in sealed container in refrig-
erator.
Pumpkin Biscuits
1/2 C. canned pumpkin
1/2 C. water
2 T. vegetable oil
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
1/2 t. nutmeg
1/2 C. oatmeal
2 C. whole wheat flour
Preheat oven to 375°. Combine pumpkin, water, cinnamon & nutmeg in a bowl. Stir well. Gradually add oatmeal & flour. Form a dough. Roll dough into 1/4 inch thickness & cut with cookie cutter. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 40 minutes. Makes 2 dozen cookies.
Quick and Easy Soft Doggie Cookies
3 jars of baby food (2-2 1/2 oz. each, beef or chicken) onion free
1/4 C. dry milk powder
1/4 C. wheat germ (Cream of Wheat and be substituted)
Preheat oven to 350°. Combine ingredients in bowl and mix well. Roll into small balls and place on well greased cookie sheets. Flatten slightly with a fork. Bake for 15 minutes until brown. Cool on wire racks and store in refrigerator. These cookies freeze well.
Healthy Peanut Butter Treats
2 C. whole wheat flour
1 T. baking powder
1 C. chunky natural peanut butter (natural peanut butter does not contain hydrogenated oil or sugar so it make a more healthful treat for your puppy) Webmaster note:
The natural peanut butter is so much better tasting if you have never tried it AND MUCH healthier!
1 C. nonfat milk
Preheat oven to 375°. Grease cookie sheets. In large bowl,
combine flour and baking powder. Use another bowl and combine peanut butter and milk. Add the milk and peanut butter to the dry ingredients and mix well. On floured surface, turn out to knead. Roll out to 1/4" thick. Cut out using cookie cutters. Place on baking sheets and bake for about 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Place on racks to cook, then store in airtight containers.
Doggie Turkey Jerky
1 lb. ground turkey, can substitute chicken or beef
3 t. teriyaki sauce
1/2 t. ginger
Preheat oven to the lowest setting, 150° to 170°. Mix all in-
gredients and spread thinly on a cookie sheet. Place in oven and bake for 2 hours. During baking, keep the oven door propped open. After 2 hours, remove the jerky from the oven and blot any grease with paper towels. Slice the jerky into 1-2" strips. Turn the slices over and return to the oven and bake 2 more hours. Allow them to cool after 2nd baking, then store in freezer. Makes about 2 dozen treats.
Health Biscuits for Skin, Coat, Teeth and Bones
This recipe is the pet equivalent of a nutrition drink or even a
mulit-vitamin. The ingredients here will supply your pet with many vitamins and minerals and provides a nice balanced ratio of energy from carbohydrates, protein & heart healthy unsaturated fat.
1 lb. fully cooked, diced or ground chicken, beef or turkey
1 can (8-10oz.) chopped mackerel
2 c. soy flour
2 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. rye flour
1 c. cornmeal
1 c. wheat germ
1 c. nonfat dry milk
1/4 c. alfalfa powder
3 t. bone meal (or 3 t. rinsed ground eggshells)
1 t. sea salt
4 T. olive oil
1 T. cod liver oil
1 vitamin E capsule, 400 IU
1 qt. (4 cups) water
Preheat the oven to 350°. Add all of the ingredients one at a time, to a large mixing bowl. As you add the ingredients, mix them together by stirring, by hand, with a large spoon or wire whisk. Make sure each ingredient is well blended before adding the next. As you continue to add the ingre-
dients the mixture will begin to form a heavy, firm dough. When it becomes difficult to mix, use your hands to knead the dough & mix in any remaining ingredients, Adjust the consistency by adding more water or flour as needed. Then use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to a thin sheet, about 1/4" thick. Prepare baking sheets by spraying then with non-stick cooking spray. Then use a cookie or biscuit cutter, or a knife to cut the dough into desired shapes for the biscuits.
For cats, it is best to cut the dough into tiny squares or ribbons rather than cookies. Arrange each cutout shape on prepared baking sheets spacing them about 1" apart or less for smaller shapes. Reuse any dough scraps that form by re-rolling & cutting them. Then, when you can no longer make any more biscuits, place the baking sheets into preheated oven. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes. Then remove to biscuits to a wire rack and allow them to cool completely. Store in airtight containers until ready to use and keep refrigerated.
Makes about 3 dozen biscuits depending on size.
Sweet Carob Treats
3 c. whole wheat flour
1/2 c. wheat germ
2 1/2 c. oatmeal
1/8 c. oatmeal
1 T. brown sugar
2 oz. carob chips, melted ( please use carob, which can be purchased at your local health food store. Chocolate can be deadly to your dog)
1 c. water
1/4 c. molasses
1/2 c. powdered milk
Preheat oven to 300°. Mix dry ingredients in large bowl. Add remaining ingredients and mix until blended. Dough will be stiff. Chill. Roll on a greased cookie sheet and cut into shapes 1/2" thick. Bake for 1 hour. Makes 2 dozen treats.
Doggie Carrot Cake
1 c. whole wheat flour
1 t. soy flour
1 t. baking soda
1/4-1/2 c. peanut butter, smooth or chunky
1 egg
1/4 c. vegetable oil
1 t. vanilla
1/2 c. honey
1 c. grated carrots
Combine flours, soda and peanut butter. Mix in egg, oil, vanilla, honey and carrots until well combined. Pour mixture into a brownie pan, 9 x 9 inch works well. Bake at 325° for 15 to 20 minutes.

No Name Treats
1 1/4 c. flour
1/2 t. cinnamon
3/4 c. peanut butter
1 T. honey
1/2 c. skim milk
Mix all wet ingredients, add to dry. Knead 2 minutes. Let rest 10 minutes. Roll out on cookie sheet and cut into small squares. Bake 45 minutes at 350°: shut off oven and leave overnight.
Taj's Tasty Treats
1/4 c. warm water
1 t. sugar
1 heaping T. active dry yeast
8 t. chicken bouillon
1 1/2 c. tomato juice
2 c. white flour
2 c. wheat germ
1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
Preheat oven to 300°. Mix together warm water, sugar and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes. Mix in bouillon. Add tomato juice, 1 c. white flour and wheat germ. Stir until smooth. Mix in remaining flours. If dough is very stiff, mix with your hands.
Sprinkle flour on a smooth surface and on rolling pin. Roll dough into a ball. Roll to 1/4" thick. Cut out shapes with cookie cutter or knife. Bake smaller biscuits for 45 minutes; larger biscuits for 1 hour. Turn off oven and leave biscuits in oven for up to 4 hours, so they become very crunchy.
